Atlanta Conventional Operating Workshop

A hands on workshop for rising operators hoping to improve their conventional operating game. 18 students will spend the day in groups rotating between six different exercises. Wheels, fluid head, handheld and hopefully a remote head will be used in various ways to train operators on the use of conventional heads for operating. Note that this is not about shot design, coverage or anything else, but a chance to learn the mechanics of operating with industry professionals to act as your guides.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE HAD SOME ON SET OPERATING EXPERIENCE AND AT LEAST A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO USE THE WHEELS TO ATTEND

The day will start off with a quick discussion of a few operating techniques followed by a demonstration by your instructors on each of the stations.  You will then jump straight onto the gear with each station designed to focus on a different skill set.  A Q&A session will be done over lunch (pizza of course, potentially eaten standing over garbage cans) as well as another at the end of the day. Finally you'll be given the remaining time to ask anything else and/orto try any of the stations you feel you were challenged by.

The Instructors - Chris Duskin spent 25 years operating on some of the biggest shows in Hollywood such as Spiderman, No Way Home, The Accountant 2 and beyond and now works as a celebrated Cinematographer. Dave Chameides is an A Camera/Steadicam operator whose work can be seen on Shame, ER, West Wing and beyond. He won the SOC Operator of the Year award in 2023 for his work on Ozark.
